The Opportunity

This includes procurement strategy, contract development and negotiation, tender evaluation, financial oversight, and risk management. The role ensures effective contract and commercial performance, value-for-money outcomes, and compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
A key focus of the role is managing stakeholder relationships and resolving commercial issues. VicGrid has two Commercial Manager roles available which will focus on the Western Renewables Link (WRL) and the Victoria to NSW Interconnector (VNI) projects.
What you will deliver
- Initiate, negotiate and resolve commercial issues with contractors and stakeholders as they arise, and prepare detailed analysis, and advise on complex commercial matters and politically sensitive issues for senior level Department decision making.
- Oversee the preparation, implementation and maintenance of procurement and contract administration documentation, systems and plans for a program of works during all phases of the project.
- Manage the preparation of tender documentation, tender evaluation, contract negotiation and the award of construction contracts and other significant procurement packages (including tender recommendation reports and contract approval request reports) for the program of works.
- Ensure VicGrid and supplier compliance against contractual obligations, maintaining effective systems and audit/surveillance strategies for monitoring compliance.
- Monitor and report on supplier performance against the contracted key performance indicators.
What you will bring
- Previous experience in a Commercial Manager's role with exposure to working on a major project, ideally with both public and private sector experience.
- Demonstrated understanding and extensive experience in managing commercial and contractual issues during all stages of the project life cycle.
- Proven knowledge and experience in preparing tender documents, evaluating tender proposals, negotiating contract terms and conditions and awarding major contracts and other significant procurement packages.
- Strong commercial acumen and financial expertise.
- Tertiary qualifications in construction, project management, or a related field.
If you think you have transferable skills, an appetite to learn, and an ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, we'd love to hear from you.
