About the role
As a Community Safety Officer, you’ll be part of a newly formed team dedicated to enhancing the city's amenity, accessibility, safety, and cleanliness. Your main duties will involve high visibility, tactical patrols to deter offending and reassure the community of the City of Melbourne’s commitment to providing safe places.
You’ll be responsible for detecting and enforcing breaches of relevant legislation and taking appropriate action to rectify issues. You will engage with the community, addressing concerns, providing guidance, and ensuring compliance with various legislation through education, enforcement, and collaboration with Victoria Police and other external stakeholders. You’ll work with the public, property owners, businesses, and tenants to achieve positive compliance outcomes.

About you
You are a dedicated and capable professional with a strong background in community safety, enforcement, and public engagement. You are known for confidently managing complex and high-pressure situations, applying sound judgment, and interpreting legislative frameworks with precision. You work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Your excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement skills enable you to interact with the public, businesses, and property owners with professionalism and courtesy. You remain calm and composed in challenging environments, using your strong communication abilities to foster trust and cooperation across diverse community groups.
Physically fit and prepared for the active nature of the role, you bring energy, reliability, and a proactive attitude to every patrol and engagement. Your approachable demeanor, collaborative spirit, and commitment to safety contribute to a positive and secure urban environment—supporting the City of Melbourne’s goal of creating clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces for all.
