Primary objective
Providing a client focussed service through efficient and effective administrative support to the Local Court.

Context statement
Court Officers deal with a broad range of clients including people from diverse cultures, generally unfamiliar with the legal
system. Court Officers also work with judicial officers who have varying practices and expectations. Court Officers do a
variety of administrative work to facilitate the operation of courts in criminal, civil and other matters.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Perform a range of clerical and administrative duties including production of court documents including court orders,

reports, and notices.
2. Undertake court procedures including opening and closing the court, operating audio and video equipment, securing

exhibits, and maintaining order in the court.
3. Working with a broad range of stakeholders including legal practitioners, judicial officers, police, corrections officers and

defendants among others, both in person and via video.
4. Undertaking a range of counter duties including receipting of cash and balancing office/trust ledger accounts.
5. Performing the statutory duties of the Deputy Registrar of the Local Court including the signing of documents as an ex

officio Justice of the Peace.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated customer service experience.
2. Experience managing and deescalating conflict in a dynamic work environment.
3. Well-developed oral, written and interpersonal skills.
4. Demonstrated experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds.
5. Experience operating as a member of a diverse team collaborating to achieve multiple objectives.
6. Experience taking direction and working unsupervised in a highly sensitive, high-volume environment.
7. Experience entering accurate and timely data through a range of computer programs.
8. Demonstrated ability to positively respond to and facilitate necessary change.

Desirable
1. Knowledge of Local Court Practices and Procedures and applicable legislation.
2. First Aid Certificate.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant
from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history. May be required to work outside of the normal hours of work. Must
be able to undertake travel to remote locations for circuit courts which may necessitate overnight absences.
