Job Description
The Culture News Editor is responsible for leading a team of reporters covering breaking news across popular culture, film, music, books, and the arts. The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative editor with strong news judgment, clear ideas and the ability to set priorities when news demands. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape cultural narratives and lead a dynamic team alongside your Sydney counterpart.
Day to day you will:
- Commission timely and engaging culture news across popular culture, film, music, books, and the arts.
- Copy edit and digitally produce content to meet high editorial standards for publication.
- Strategically manage the digital distribution of culture content to maximise reach and impact, including major events.
- Brief daily conferences on upcoming content and team output.
- Uphold rigorous editorial standards across all culture content.
- Effectively manage and execute requests from various stakeholders.
- Lead and mentor a team of culture reporters and writers.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring:
- Extensive experience in copy editing and fact-checking.
- Significant experience in digital production.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team.
- A solid understanding of editorial standards and digital publishing workflows.
- Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working within a digital-first newsroom environment.
- A passion for culture news and a keen understanding of the media landscape.
