A LITTLE ABOUT US
Shippit is Australia’s best connected shipping software. Logistics infrastructure is a sophisticated beast, and we’re not only improving the experience for everyone involved, we’re impacting the planet in a positive manner: deliveries made through our platform are already 100% Carbon Neutral. Proudly Australian founded, we’re truly global in our approach and have the benefit of being a free moving scaleup with the security of impacting a growing industry that needs some love and attention.
THE ROLE
Data is core to how Shippit operates. Every scan and movement a parcel makes is a snippet of data. As a result, we have the opportunity to make delivery experiences faster, more delightful, and more environmentally friendly. The Data Squad at Shippit is a close-knit team that believes in constant, never-ending improvement–and we’d love to have you along for the ride. Some of our stack includes Snowflake, dbt, Estuary, Looker, and Rudderstack, and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve our practice and the lives of our internal and external customers.
Our Data Analyst plays a key role in building the infrastructure and capabilities needed to scale AI, machine learning, and data-driven applications, including the development of new data products. At the same time, the role strengthens our partnership with the Commercial Shipping team, equipping them with insights and simulations to enhance customer relationships, support carrier integration decisions, forecast performance against budget, and identify logistics network issues early.
DAY TO DAY
- Investigating requirements and creating reporting as well as data activation layers for our Commercial Logistics organisation, such as a carrier performance comparison by lane which will automatically trigger service alerts to customers.
- Working closely with Shipping managers to track the commercial performance of new carriers, along with on-time delivery and other performance metrics related to our logistics network.
- Utilising data activation principles to surface opportunities and build new tools to help our teams serve our customers better, an example is supporting a tool that suggests configuration changes to improve our customers’ Shippit experience.
- While you will be building reports, building templates for reports and enabling self-serve is even more important—part of this role is also utilising Deepnote, our cloud notebook system, to help build simulations that users will then be able to self-serve with.
- Performing particularly gnarly once-off analysis utilising the full suite of tools available to you as sometimes using a notebook, R, or Python just works better and helps us get to decisions more quickly.
- Improving data quality issues arising from our integrations with carriers, eCommerce platforms, and with Shippit, helping to find causes of missing scans and anomalous issues.
- Working closely with the Finance function to understand changes in forecasting or changes in financial processes that could affect the commercials and communicate these back to the business.
- Running workshops to determine problem scope and the relevant insights required to drive us to decisions, and being the honest broker when your analysis shows a different result than what’s expected.
- Maintaining strong relationships across the business and being a trusted partner and advocate.
WHAT YOU BRING
- You know SQL or Python. You’ve optimised queries before, know how to translate business requirements into system understanding, and you have strong feelings on style.
- You consider yourself skilled on a next-generation BI tool or two. Ideally, you have an opinion as to what BI tools you enjoy working with and those you don’t.
- You’ve worked with a cloud data warehouse before. Shippit uses Snowflake, but other solutions are acceptable.
- You have experience working with Git. Just pressing the green button on Looker to push all your LookML to production is unfortunately not what we are looking for.
- You have worked in a self-serve environment within analytics and believe strongly in data democratisation.
- You have faith in your analytical prowess, and pride yourself on your resilience Finally, you have excellent communication skills
- -both written and verbal. You know how to make data tell a story, and you’ve probably got one ready to go for our interview.

Nice if you have
- Experience developing with dbt or LookML.
- A curiosity towards emerging AI platforms such as Snowflake Intelligence and some opinions on the evolution of analytics to include AI.
- Experience working in the shipping and logistics industry, or an allied industry, such as aviation or travel
- Evidence that you take user experience into account, as Shippit has a high proportion of self-serve BI users and you are their advocate.
- Of course, that above point doesn’t mean you are a doormat, we would love to know that you know how to prioritise towards broader outcomes.
- Experience creating data products outside of traditional reporting or self-serve BI, such as commercialised reporting or conversational analytics.
