Greater Northern Community Services provides supports for adolescents and adults living with disabilities to reach their full potential. We work closely with our clients supporting them with daily self-care activities, attending appointments, community access with the focus on encouraging and promoting active, healthy and positive lifestyle choices.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Support Worker for a male participant aged between 60–70 years residing in Ashburton, VIC. The participant has a diagnosis of throat cancer and is an amputee. The ideal support worker will be fluent in Greek, experienced, and able to start shifts no later than 10:30am.
Supports Required:
- Assistance with meal preparation at home
- Transport to and from appointments as needed
Participant Goals:
- Work with a Support Worker who can speak the Greek language
- Receive support from someone experienced and confident in the role
- Be matched with a Support Worker who is not too old or too young, ensuring an ideal fit for rapport and energy levels
Participant Requirements (must strictly meet all):
- Must speak the Greek language fluently
- Age suitability: not too old, not too young, to ensure best match with participant’s needs
- Punctual and able to start shifts no later than 10:30am
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personal and domestic support as required
- Assist with daily living activities in a respectful and professional manner
- Offer companionship and build rapport through shared language and cultural understanding
- Encourage independence and provide practical assistance in line with participant’s needs
- Support transport or errands as required
Work Hours:
- Monday: 5 hours – Start time: 8:00am or 10:30am (latest)
- Thursday: 5 hours – Start time: 8:00am or 10:30am (latest)
- Total Hours: 10 hours per week
- Start Date: Friday 15 August 2025 (immediate start)

Remuneration
- You will be paid fortnightly.
- Rates will be competitive and based on experience and qualifications, in line with industry standards (+ Superannuation). Specific rates will be discussed with successful applicants.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must meet all participant preferences (see above)
- Relevant experience in disability, aged care, or individual support
- Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, or similar (highly regarded)
- Willingness to accept shorter shifts as outlined
- Current Working with Children Check
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Valid First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009)
- National Police Check (within last 12 months)
- Full Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle
- Must have the right to work in Australia
- Ability to relate well to the participant and foster a positive, trusting connection
