Job Opportunity: Drama Teacher
Shaumet Music Academy is a vibrant and growing performing arts school located in Chatswood, committed to delivering high-quality music and performing arts education. As we continue to expand our offerings, we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Drama Teacher to join our team. Applicants with experience in teaching both individual and group drama classes, especially those with a background in performance and drama education, are highly encouraged to apply.
Requirements and Responsibilities:
- Teach drama to students of all ages and skill levels in both one-to-one and group class formats.
- Design engaging lesson plans that cultivate creativity, self-expression, and confidence in students.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and inspiring classroom environment.
- Prepare students for showcases, performances, and potential drama assessments or competitions.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and maintain open communication with parents.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to organize school-wide events and productions.
- Demonstrate strong classroom management, punctuality, and independent initiative.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Introduce students to a variety of dramatic styles and theatrical techniques (e.g., improvisation, voice training, monologues, ensemble work).
- Guide students in script reading, performance preparation, and character development.
- Organize term-end performances, group productions, or drama workshops.
- Encourage participation in drama exams (e.g., Trinity, AMEB Speech & Drama), where applicable.
- Support the emotional and creative development of each student.
Requirements:
Experience:
- Proven teaching experience in drama, theatre, or performing arts.
- Experience in directing student performances or stage productions.
- Familiarity with drama exam syllabuses (e.g., Trinity, AMEB) is a plus.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong communication and public speaking skills.
- Passionate about performing arts education.
- Ability to engage and motivate students in creative ways.
- Energetic, professional, and nurturing teaching style.
Education:
- Degree in Drama, Theatre Studies, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field (preferred).
Licence/Certification:
- Working with Children Check (required).
