Your next career opportunity
As the Editorial Assistant at the Centre for Advancing Journalism, you'll have the exciting opportunity to support the production of influential online publications such as The Citizen and The Global Citizen. You'll gain valuable experience in compiling and publishing newsletters, managing social media channels, and supporting the organisation of key events. This role offers you the chance to apply your journalism skills in a real-world setting, working alongside experienced professionals in a prestigious academic environment.

Your key responsibilities in this period will include :

  • Compile and Publish Content: Produce the monthly CAJ newsletter, The Advancer, and assist with other publications as needed.

  • Digital Communication Management: Develop publicity materials, maintain the CAJ website, and manage social media channels in collaboration with the Marketing team.

  • Event Support: Work with the Engagement and Partnerships team to organise and deliver CAJ events.

  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative assistance to support the CAJ newsroom operations.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a recent or soon-to-be graduate of the University of Melbourne's Journalism program, with strong digital literacy, exceptional writing and editing skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

You may also:

  • Have completed or be nearing completion of a Journalism program at the University of Melbourne within the last 5 years.

  • Possess strong literacy in social media and digital platforms.

  • Demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain professional relationships.

  • Excel at time management and multitasking to meet deadlines effectively.
