The Role
As Strategy & Policy Adviser to Deputy Secretary Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (DEPSEC CASG), you are a senior representative of the Office of DEPSEC CASG.

You are responsible for advising DEPSEC CASG on a range of critically important matters, including, but not limited to, CASG equities in Whole-of-Government (WoG) and Department of Defence (Defence) policy and strategies, CASG enterprise issues and risks, and the creation, review and provision of advice on senior executive and government products. This extends to the provision of advice on Cabinet Submissions, Defence Committee submissions, CASG-led Committee and Board submissions, and WoG Deputy Secretary Committee submissions.

It is your responsibility to work with all Divisions of CASG constructively, and provide assistance and support to those Divisions in their delivery of DEPSEC CASG priorities, and CASG equities in Defence policies and strategies.

As a senior adviser to DEPSEC CASG, you will also be required, at times, to deliver reviews, papers and reports at the direction of DEPSEC CASG and/or the Chief of Staff on various matters. The Chief of Staff, following agreement with the relevant CASG Division Head, may also direct you to support a Division to deliver time-sensitive and/or critical products for DEPSEC CASG, the senior leadership of Defence, or the Government.

In addition, you are responsible for overseeing and managing DEPSEC CASG industry engagement. This extends to providing both tactical day-to-day management and involvement in DEPSEC CASG industry engagement activities, but also strategic guidance and advice in the conduct of DEPSEC CASG’s engagement with industry. You will be required to work with personnel within the offices of Division Heads to ensure there is effective management, communication, and line-of-sight of relevant industry engagement activities between Division Heads and DEPSEC CASG.

As Strategy & Policy Adviser, you will manage all DEPSEC CASG communications, and DEPSEC CASG equities in internal and external facing communications led by other Groups or Services. This extends to creating, reviewing and providing advice on DEPSEC CASG communications and Priority One media enquiries requiring ODEPSEC review and clearance. You will work constructively, and closely engage with the NSSG, GWEO and CASG media teams and respective internal communications teams in the military equipment delivery groups.

About our Team
The Office of DEPSEC CASG operates in a fast-tempo and demand-driven environment. We support DEPSEC CASG in managing a range of competing priorities that deliver on Government policy. It is up to the Office of DEPSEC CASG to lead the co-ordination of this effort in a partnership with the Divisions of CASG, and when necessary, other Groups and Services of the Defence organisation.

We are a dynamic environment to work in, offering a rewarding career in one of the largest groups within Defence. You will be exposed to a range of stakeholders, privileged and classified material from across all Divisions in CASG. We are committed to the personal and professional development of our staff, and welcome interested candidates to apply to join our team.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is a leader who has previously managed staff, been exposed to business operations, and has had experience working in a project delivery, strategy or a policy focused role. The ideal candidate is an individual seeking to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment, and wants to be part of managing a dynamic team to support and advise DEPSEC CASG. You are a passionate, enthusiastic and motivated leader that can operate with significant independence, and on limited direction.

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional verbal and written skills, demonstrate strong leadership qualities, be an excellent communicator, well organised, show initiative, apply a strong level of attention to detail, and be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. You will also be required to build and sustain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders of varying levels and backgrounds, including both civilian and military personnel. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Negative Vetting 2 clearance. As an employer of choice, we have developed training pathways to encourage your development. Within these programs, we provide funding for your professional membership and credentialing.
