The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and new early learning centres.

About the Division

The Employee Safety, Wellbeing and Inclusion Division (ESWID) is committed to the Department's vision to create healthy and safe working and learning environments for Department employees to thrive and succeed.

ESWID performs its functions through five branches that span from prevention, through to response and recovery, along with strategy, advice and support. These teams adopt a holistic approach for supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce across schools, central and regional offices. This includes Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers' Compensation policy advice and support, for both physical and mental health and wellbeing. The objectives of the Division are to:

  • promote positive wellbeing in learning and working environments
  • prevent against known and expected risks to health, safety and wellbeing
  • respond swiftly and effectively to manage potential issues as they emerge and prevent injuries
  • support employees to recover from injury and illness and return to work.

About the Role

Fixed term until 30/06/2028

The Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion Leader - Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion and Programs will:

  • Be a contact point for school staff mental health and wellbeing queries, actively referring on to ESWID and other internal and external supports and services as required
  • Promote employee mental health and wellbeing programs and services, ensuring these are available and accessible for regional and school staff. This will include developing and delivering proactive education sessions to school staff to support wellbeing and raise awareness of the department's wellbeing support offerings.
  • Build positive relationships, trust and confidence and work with schools, area and regional based staff to build wellbeing capability and literacy and champion school staff wellbeing.
  • Work constructively with Area Health and Wellbeing Key Contacts to enable a joined up whole school approach to wellbeing including wellbeing supports and services for school staff


The Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion Leader will support the delivery of the Employee Mental Health Reform, based in one of the below regional office locations:

  • North Eastern Region, Glen Waverley
  • South Eastern Region, Dandenong

Alternative regional office locations may be discussed with the preferred candidate.

In particular, the Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion Leader will support the Reform's promotion of mental health and wellbeing for school and regional staff, with an emphasis on improving uptake of the Employee Wellbeing Support Services and other related mental health and wellbeing support services. The Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion Leader will work closely with Area and Regional workforces in ensuring alignment with broader departmental priorities and will need strong interpersonal skills, have demonstrated experience and skills in mental health and wellbeing promotion, and an understanding of the Victorian Government education sector.

Travel in regional areas (including to schools and regional offices) will be required in this role. In addition, the Leader will be expected to attending meetings on a monthly basis in Melbourne.

The Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing Promotion Leader will report to the Manager, Employee Mental Health Wellbeing Promotion and Programs Team.

Qualifications and Experience

Desirable: Relevant tertiary qualification in education, health promotion, communication or a related field. Experience in mental health and wellbeing promotion.

Essential: Victorian driver's license. Working With Children Check.
