As warmer weather returns and the new year approaches, we are expecting an increase in teaching opportunities at our college, particularly on our direct entry program - UMELBP - as students prepare for the Semester 1 2026 intake at the University of Melbourne.
Essential skills & qualities
- EFL/ESL teaching experience in Australia or overseas.
- An approach to teaching which shows evidence of effective and culturally sensitive class management, knowledge of current TESOL theory and practice in the ESL/EFL classroom, and an understanding of student engagement and learning styles.
- The ability to carry out administrative duties required of Hawthorn-Melbourne teaching staff to a high standard (e.g. monitoring of attendance, standardisation and moderation, course record-keeping).
- Professionalism, which includes teamwork, collegiality, information and resource sharing, and high standards of professional conduct.
- Current Working with Children Check.
Desirable skills & qualities
- Experience across a wide range of ESL courses,
- Experience with students on pathways to tertiary study, or at the tertiary level.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms including Zoom and Moodle.
- Strong MS Office competencies, including Outlook and SharePoint.
Qualifications
This position requires, as a minimum:
- A degree
- An entry-level TESOL qualification*
Desirable qualifications include:
- Postgraduate qualifications in TESOL, such as DELTA, MTESOL.
- e.g. TESOL Certificate (e.g. CELTA) OR a unit in TESOL method as part of a degree.
