Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Executive Manager – Culture & Community Safety to lead vital programs including Social & Emotional Wellbeing, Paanthi, Stronger Families, Strong Communities, and Culture Care Connect.

As a key member of the Executive team, the Executive Manager, Culture & Community Safety will provide strong leadership to guide and support managers within the Culture & Community Safety structure, ensuring all activities meet legislative, government, professional standards, and funding provider obligations. Importantly, the Executive Manager is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate compilation and submission of all required reports for funding and accreditation purposes, either directly or through effective delegation. The Executive Manager fosters professional and collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, building confidence and maintaining effective partnerships. They will ensure that health services are delivered in a manner that is respectful, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership across Culture & Community Safety services.
  • Guide and mentor a high-performing management team, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace.
  • Ensure compliance with funding, accreditation, and legislative requirements.
  • Represent Nunkuwarrin Yunti in high-level forums, negotiations, and community partnerships.
  • Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and culturally appropriate service delivery.
  • Oversee budgets, reporting, and risk management strategies to support sustainable operations.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in Business or similar field or relevant managerial experience appropriate to the role.
  • Experience in managing client focused service functions, preferably in a community environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities including the ability to motivate others and to adopt a teamwork approach to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and communicate at a senior level with Government and non-government agencies including key stakeholders and funding providers.
  • Proven capacity for innovative thought and action, significant and proven abilities as a change agent for delivery and improved policies and practices, including the ability to recognise opportunities and promote the positive involvement of others in change initiatives.
  • Highly developed communication skills, including public presentation, relationship management and consultation.
  • Pragmatic, responsive and able to deal with an extensive span of issues.
  • Significant ability in financial management and ability to provide support in areas such as budget planning, business planning etc.
  • Significant ability in people management to motivate staff and achieve organisational goals.
  • Significant ability and/or understanding of client systems development and applications of business technologies to the industry.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and Aboriginal health and community issues.
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation and principles.

Desirable:

  • Previous leadership experience in a community/ health service industry.
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal people and organisations, particularly in Aboriginal health related areas at a senior level.
