The Opportunity

The Finance Controller - Retail is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of caravan dealerships in Australia. This position ensures compliance with Australian financial regulations, provides strategic financials insights and drives profitability. The Financial Controller manages financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow and inventory control while supporting sales and customer financing initiatives in a dynamic and competitive market.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Oversight and Reporting

• Prepare accurate financial statements (balance sheets, profit and loss, cash flow)
• Develop and monitor annual budgets and forecasts, providing detailed variance analysis to senior management
• Manage cash flow to ensure liquidity for operations and growth opportunities
• Oversee inventory control systems to optimise caravan stock levels and reduce costs
• Ensure compliance with Australian tax laws (e.g., GST, PAYG) and financial regulations
• Collaborate with sales and service teams to analyse profitability and support business objectives
• Manage relationships with banks, auditors, and financial partners
• Provide strategic financial advice to enhance decision-making and long-term planning
• Oversee customer financing programs, ensuring compliance with the National Consumer Credit Protection Act

Commercial and Operational Support

• Analyse sales trends, pricing, and inventory costs to improve profitability in the Australian caravan market.
• Manage stock valuation and cost control, accounting for seasonal demand and market shift
• Support customer financing and retail finance strategies to boost sales while adhering to Australian consumer laws
• Work with procurement teams to negotiate supplier contracts and manage costs
• Monitor market trends (e.g., demand for eco-friendly caravans) to refine business strategies

Cash Flow and Treasury Management

• Forecast cash flow and manage working capital for operational and investment needs
• Mitigate financial risks, such as interest rate changes or supply chain issues

Compliance and Internal Controls

• Implement strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with Australian Consumer Law (ACL) and the Corporations Act.
• Develop contingency plans for financial and operational risks, such as economic downturns

Team Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

• Lead the Finance Officers in Dealer network, fostering collaboration and professional development
• Train staff on financial processes and compliance requirements
• Build relationships with internal teams, banks, suppliers
• Present financial insights to Dealer Principals

What we are looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline, a Master’s Degree or MBA is advantageous
• Full member of CPA Australia, CAANZ or GAA ‘Global Accounting Alliance]
• Expertise in financial reporting, budgeting and treasury management under AASB
• Knowledge of Australian compliance laws [eg. GST, payroll tax, consumer credit]
• Proficiency in financial software SAP and MS Excel
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
