Our Freight & Third-Party Access team plays a vital role in ensuring level crossing safety and compliance. This role offers the opportunity to work with data, stakeholders, and infrastructure to support safety improvements across the network. You’ll be part of a team that values cooperation, precision, and purpose.
About the role
The Freight & Third-Party Access Analyst supports the Head of Level Crossings by managing safety data, coordinating inspections, and helping ensure third-party compliance obligations are met.
You’ll work with internal and external stakeholders to maintain accurate records, associated monthly reporting, support risk assessments, and contribute to safety submissions and improvement programs.
Key accountabilities include:
- Analyse and manage level crossing safety data and documentation
- Support risk assessments and hazard identification across the network
- Maintain accuracy of our data within JDE and ALCAM databases
- Coordinate site visits, inspections, and travel logistics
- Assist with safety submissions and committee reporting
- Document and follow up on third-party compliance actions
- Engage with councils, landowners, and freight operators
- Monitor regulatory developments and support internal compliance
- Help identify and close illegal or redundant crossings
- Occasional travel to regional sites and administrative coordination for field activities.
About you
You’re detail-oriented, collaborative, and enjoy working with data to support real-world outcomes. You’re also comfortable engaging with stakeholders and contributing to a team that values respectful communication and shared goals. You prefer a focused work environment and take pride in delivering accurate, timely results.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Experience in rail or infrastructure environments (2+ years preferred)
- Strong data analysis skills, including Excel and Power BI
- Understanding of risk management and safety principles (SFAIRP)
- Tertiary qualification in business, OHS or related field (desirable)
- Knowledge of railway assets or willingness to learn
- Clear communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and documentation
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel regionally
- Knowledge of the Victorian Railway operations is desirable.
