About the Role:
As a GIS Specialist, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and ensuring the accuracy of spatial data used by PF&D and its stakeholders. You will play a crucial role in managing facilities, infrastructure, public realm, and urban planning on campus through your creative and innovative approach to GIS. Your main focus will be on developing and enhancing the mapping and GIS capabilities within the Properties, Facilities, and Development (PF&D) team at Curtin University. You will also work closely with faculties, Safer Communities, health and safety, access and inclusion, and a variety of other stakeholders to bring value and innovation through GIS technology to Curtin’s operations. Your work will support key priorities in enhancing students’ experience, facility management and urban planning.

Your main focus will be on developing and enhancing the mapping and GIS capabilities within the Properties, Facilities, and Development (PF&D) team at Curtin University. You will also work closely with faculties, Safer Communities, health and safety, access and inclusion, and a variety of other stakeholders to bring value and innovation through GIS technology to Curtin’s operations. Your work will support key priorities in enhancing students’ experience, facility management and urban planning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Possess advanced knowledge of administrating GIS software within an ArcGIS Enterprise environment, including ArcGIS Pro and Portal for ArcGIS.
- Advise and guide the direction of the university's GIS strategy and operations for properties by developing and implementing GIS policies, procedures, and standards.
- Administer and maintain spatial infrastructure, which includes applications, databases, and web maps within Portal for ArcGIS.
- Collect and process data from the field utilising various surveying technologies such as drone operation, photo-imagery, LiDAR and ArcGIS Survey123.
- Develop and maintain custom scripts and automate geospatial workflows using Python and FME.
- Administer and maintain Curtin University's online mapping and wayfinding platform, MazeMap.
- Build and maintain robust business relationships with stakeholders to promote an understanding of GIS capabilities and create outcomes that support operational commitments.
- A degree in Geographic Information Systems or similar with relevant practical experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant practical experience and/or education/training
- Experience using GIS technologies and ESRI tools to extract and manipulate data, knowledge of GIS software and associated linkages together with sound database management skills.
- An understanding of GIS data governance and GIS standards.
- Capacity to interpret complex information and data.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse, assess and identify service needs and expectations of a diverse customer base.
- Proven ability to think creatively and translate creative ideas into practical business solutions.
- Well-developed project management and organisational skills within a technical environment.
- Strong oral communication skills with the ability to develop key working relationships and select the most appropriate medium for conveying information to a diverse audience.
- Understanding of AutoCAD and associated file types together with the ability to extract AutoCAD data and utilise FME workbench tools to load into GIS system.
- As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
