Working with the Northern Sydney Voluntary Assisted Dying Local Support Team (LST) is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients and families. As a grief and bereavement coordinator, you will be responsible for the coordination of high quality, short-term bereavement care, supporting patients, families and carers through the VAD process and identifying when specialist bereavement services are required for families and carers for ongoing support.

What you'll be doing

The vision for Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) is to be “leaders in healthcare, partners in community wellbeing”. NSLHD is committed to providing healthcare of benefit and consequence, embracing discovery and learning, building collaborative relationships and engaging our community in their care.

The purpose of the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Grief and Bereavement Coordinator position is:

  • Planning, coordinating and implementing high-quality, short-term bereavement care that is consistent with NSW Health and NSLHD policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Supporting patients, families and carers who are undertaking the VAD process including attending assessments and substance administration as required.
  • Supporting families and carers following the patient’s death including referral to specialist bereavement services for ongoing support where required.

The position is based at Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards whilst coordinating care in all community, private and NSLHD facilities.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor or post graduate degree in Social Work and eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) with a minimum experience at Level 2.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including working with a diverse range of key stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide high level clinical advice and education to enhance service delivery.
  • Ability to work as part of multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a complex nature.
