We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead the end-to-end payroll function across JPL Group. Managing a team of six, you’ll oversee fortnightly payroll for 4,000–5,000 retail team members and a monthly Head Office payroll, ensuring compliance with awards, agreements, and legislation.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll drive process improvements, lead payroll projects, and play a key role in enterprise agreement negotiations. What will you do?
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 4,000–5,000 team members using Dayforce and Chris21, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure timely and accurate submissions to the ATO, including Single Touch Payroll (STP) and other statutory reporting.
- Oversee superannuation, leave, termination payments, workers' compensation, and employment-related tax obligations.
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and bank, and provide accurate reporting and payroll analysis to key stakeholders.
- Lead, coach, and support a team of six payroll professionals, driving performance and continuous development.
- Maintain and improve payroll systems, processes, and controls to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Collaborate with HR, IT, and Finance to deliver process improvements and system upgrades.
- Provide timely support for employee payroll queries, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience managing a payroll team in a high-volume environment, ideally within retail or multi-site operations.
- Strong understanding of employment legislation, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in coaching and developing payroll teams.
- Experience working with payroll and time & attendance systems, preferably Dayforce and Chris21.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel for payroll reporting and analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail under tight deadlines.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in payroll, finance, human resources, or a related discipline are highly desirable.
