PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The Hatchery Process Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality production of day-old chicks to meet Hazeldenes’ animal welfare, biosecurity, and performance standards. Working hands-on in a fast-paced environment, the role contributes directly to the success of the hatchery by upholding strict hygiene protocols, participating in task rotations, maintaining a clean and bio-secure workspace, and consistently demonstrating a commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, and workplace safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Prepare and handle fertile eggs during incubation and hatching, ensuring careful and timely transfers between incubators and hatchers.
- Monitor and process day-old chicks to meet strict animal welfare and quality standards, ensuring accurate sexing, counting, and preparation for farm delivery.
- Participate in diagnosing egg fertility and embryo development as part of ongoing learning and process improvement.
- Maintain exceptional levels of cleanliness and biosecurity across all work areas through routine sanitation and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Complete all required documentation and data entry accurately and within required timeframes to support quality assurance and traceability.
- Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a safe work environment by reporting hazards, near misses, and incidents in a timely manner.
- Monitor chick health and quality throughout the process, taking corrective action where needed to maintain standards.
- Participate actively in team rotations and communicate effectively with team leaders and co-workers to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Support continuous improvement by providing feedback, identifying areas for process enhancement, and embracing change initiatives.
