About Us:
Full Stop Australia is a not-for-profit organisation, operating nationally, but based in Sydney. Our mission is to put a full stop to sexual, domestic, and family violence and to support those who have been impacted by violence and abuse. We operate the NSW Sexual Violence Helpline and a range of specialist Redress and domestic violence counselling services. Full Stop Australia also offers best-practice training and professional services to support safe and respectful workplaces, and advocates for changes to laws, policies, and practices to better prevent and respond to sexual, domestic, and family violence.
About the Role:
This role is a full time 12 month parental leave contract, commencing mid September 2025.
The Head of Advocacy is responsible for the strategic leadership of the Advocacy Team and drives the organisations advocacy and policy work.
This role ensures objectives are met by:
Consulting with frontline staff, survivor advocates and colleagues in the specialist SDFV sector to develop policy and law reform proposals.
Development of high quality policy and law reform advice to government in the form of position papers, written submissions, direct consultations, interagency meetings, events and media engagement as required.
Developing and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders including relevant SDFV sector organisations, frontline service providers politicians and government departments.
This role is also responsible or leading Full Stop Australia’s lived expertise engagement initiatives including the National Survivor Advocate Program and the Lived Expertise ‘Ideas to Action’ incubator Program
Desired Skills and Experience
About You:
You will be someone who operates with the highest levels of professionalism and ethical behaviour.
You will have substantial current knowledge and understanding of legal and policy responses to sexual, domestic and family violence domestically and a working knowledge of international developments in sexual, domestic and family violence legal and policy responses.
Your qualifications and experience will include:
- A law degree or relevant qualifications and experience working in legal and policy reform.
- Minimum seven years’ experience working in legal and policy reform, legal practice and government relations or advocacy.
- Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills, including senior stakeholder management, public speaking and media engagement.
- Demonstrated capability in producing high quality impactful policy and law reform submission, position papers, briefing papers and direct advice.

Salary: This position has been classified as Level 7 under the Social, Community, Home, and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award.
Contract: This is a one year full time parental leave contract.
Full Stop Australia offers a hybrid model of working, with the option to work part of your hours from home (where applicable).
