The new high school in Edmondson Park has commenced construction on the corner of Buchan Avenue and Horrie Road. The school will be located in the South Western Sydney growth corridor which has seen an exponential growth of residential housing over the past ten years. The school will primarily serve the communities of Edmondson Park and Bardia.
Due to the unique and complex nature of opening a new school, executive positions will be appointed prior to the school opening. It is anticipated that the school will initially take enrolments for Year 7 students only. The role will begin at the start of Term 4. The Head Teacher will play a key role in leading the development of curriculum, systems, and processes, and will work closely with the leadership team to establish the foundational structures of the new school, including staff recruitment and building strong connections with the community.
The new secondary school is designed to serve the exponential growth of local families in the area and will be built in stages. Stage 1 will have capacity for 800 students however the school will be built with core facilities for 2000 students.
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Demonstrated capacity to establish and lead a new and innovative English faculty in a start-up school environment, cultivating a collaborative and high performing team through mentoring, instructional leadership, and professional learning to drive excellence in teaching practice and student outcomes.
2. Demonstrated success in developing and embedding effective faculty systems and processes including programming, assessment, feedback as well as reporting frameworks that enhance student engagement, learning outcomes, and maintain consistency and excellence in evidenced-based teaching practice.
3. Demonstrated inclusive and visible leadership, and strong interpersonal skills to support student growth, staff professional development and community engagement.
4. Ability to contribute as an effective and strategic member of the school leadership team, driving whole school improvement through collaborative planning, high impact initiatives, and a shared culture of excellence that enhances student learning.
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
