Position Information

Killara High School (enrolment approximately 1800 students, including 55% of students from a language background other than English) is a co-educational comprehensive high school with an outstanding reputation for providing opportunities where all students can excel in academic, sporting, cultural, leadership and community service endeavours. The school is large, diverse, ambitious and innovative. There is a strong pro-active focus on academic growth, personal best efforts and student wellbeing. There is an extensive curriculum enrichment program that includes 12 music ensembles, three dance ensembles, drama, sport, debating, Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, chess, light and sound, and Killara Academy University Preparation program. The school's wellbeing programs focus on developing the whole student and include camps, workshops and a comprehensive mentor group program. The collaborative leadership team is highly engaged with students, parents and staff who form an articulate and confident community with high expectations. The school has a strong focus on rigorous professional learning which targets the improvement of student learning outcomes. Killara High School values its strong links with its community and various universities. The Parents and Citizens Association has a close and supportive working relationship with the school.


Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Approval to teach Mathematics 7-12 and demonstrated capacity to teach Mathematics Extension 1- 2
2. Demonstrated capacity to lead a high-performing mathematics faculty through effective organisation, strategic planning, and management of people, systems, and processes to support improved student learning outcomes.
3. Demonstrated capacity to lead the design, construction and evaluation of best-practice teaching and learning programs, built on effective assessment and explicit teaching, as well as visible and responsive leadership to ensure program implementation generates high impact learning experiences for all students
4. Proven ability to communicate with clarity and purpose across a range of contexts, fostering positive and productive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider school community.
5. Demonstrated ability to use data and evidence-informed practices to lead faculty improvement and staff development, while contributing collaboratively to whole-school priorities as an active member of the executive.


General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
