Murrindindi Shire Council (Council) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the appointment as Independent Member of Council’s CEO Employment and Remuneration Committee for a period of two (2) years.
Background
On 25 August 2021 Council adopted the CEO Employment and Remuneration Policy in accordance with section 45 of the Local Government Act 2020. This policy establishes a CEO Employment and Remuneration Committee which is comprised of minimum three (3) Councillors and an Independent Member.
The Committee’s role is detailed in Council’s CEO Employment and Remuneration Policy and includes:
- preparing relevant documentation including Council reports and contractual documents for Council’s approval;
- conducting and maintaining appropriate records regarding the CEO’s performance plan and performance reviews;
- and reviewing the CEO’s Remuneration Package and conditions of employment.
About the role
The Independant Member's role is to:
- participate in all Committee meetings
- provide impartial and expert advice to the Committee
- facilitate the development of the draft CEO performance criteria and performance review methodology (in consultation with the Committee and the CEO ) provide benchmarking and advice to the Committee on an appropriate remuneration.
The Independent Member’s initial appointment contract will be for 2 years with the option to re-appoint for a further two, 1-year term extensions. The Independent Member will be entitled to a sitting fee per meeting (which is to be inclusive of meeting attendance, research and meeting preparation) and reimbursement of travel costs (where applicable) in line with relevant ATO rates. For the purpose of this EOI, quotations should be based on 4 Committee Meetings per year.
Selection criteria
The Independent Member will be selected based on the following key competencies:
- demonstrated human resource management experience and leadership (specifically in the areas of recruitment, benchmarking, performance management and reviews and professional development of executive level staff)
- experience in senior roles in business and/or the public sector
- experience working with boards or other governance bodies.
