About the Role

The Laboratory Technical Support – Team Leader (Science) works under the guidance of the Manager, Technical and Laboratory Support (Science), and is responsible for overseeing both physical resources and junior team members within the Science laboratories in the School of Science, Computing and Emerging Technologies (SoSCET) at Swinburne. This junior leadership role plays a key part in supporting high-quality teaching and research by helping to plan and carry out strategic initiatives in the labs. It involves working closely with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient operations and alignment with Swinburne’s broader goals.

The role requires strong communication and relationship-building skills, as it involves working collaboratively across different technical teams and business units under a 'One Swinburne' mindset. The Team Leader also provides expert advice on health and safety matters, manages junior technical staff on a daily basis, and supports research and teaching operations by helping with scheduling, updating compliance documents, and offering general lab support. A proactive, positive, can-do attitude and commitment to top-notch service delivery are essential to succeed in this position.
