The Magistrates Clerk is responsible for the provision of an in-court and out-of-court administrative support service to the magistracy including the accurate recording of court proceedings.

The Magistrate Clerk is important element of the Court proceedings and is responsible for the provision of a comprehensive administrative support service to the Magistracy both in and out of courtroom, including the accurate recording of Court proceedings and management and production of supporting documents for the Court.

Magistrates Clerks have an opportunity to work in all jurisdictions of the Magistrates Court or Youth Court and may have the opportunity to travel to various CBD, suburban and country locations.

As the role requires a specific skill set, Magistrates Clerks are supported with an initial training period of at least 3 months (full-time) and have the ability to progress to higher responsibility and remuneration levels thereafter.

Multiple positions available at various locations of varying tenures, full-time and part-time (minimum 22.5 hrs per week).

Do you have?

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, use initiative, organise and accurately complete work within set time frames in a demanding and diverse environment.
  • Minimum typing speed of 50 wpm with 98% accuracy as well as the ability to operate and transcribe from audio recording.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and to simultaneously perform multiple tasks.
  • High level communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications and databases.

Special Conditions:

The following special conditions apply to this position:

  • Multiple full-time and part-time - 12 month roles with possible extensions available.
  • Appointment is under the Courts Administration Act, 1993. Terms and Conditions of employment are governed by the Public Sector Act, 2009.
  • This role is identified as a Prescribed Position and the successful applicant is required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to employment with the CAA, which must be renewed every five years before expiry. WWCC’s can be obtained through the Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening Unit.
  • Appointment is dependent upon a current National Police Certificate that the CAA finds satisfactory.
  • As a justice agency, the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process.
  • You will be required to undertake work related intra or interstate travel, which may require driving a motor vehicle and overnight absences.
  • You will be required to work at any court sitting place in any jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court or Youth Court, or any business unit on a temporary or ongoing basis.

Remuneration:

ASO3 ($67,589 - $72,033 per annum)
ASO4 ($76,651 - $80,256 per annum)
