Primary objective
Manage and coordinate operational activities to secure leasing arrangements for Northern Territory Government
infrastructure in remote areas of the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide management of the progression of land use requests from client agencies for remote areas of the Northern
Territory.
2. Engage with a diverse range of remote stakeholders, negotiating and collaborating with Land Councils, Office of
Township Leasing, and other landowners for leasing outcomes in accordance with Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern
Territory) Act 1976, and other legislation and processes.
3. Contribute to enhancing land leasing systems that supports whole of government land management and reporting
requirements.
4. Prepare complex Ministerial briefings, Legislative Assembly briefings, Cabinet Submissions and other high-level briefings
and correspondence.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including experience in the preparation of high level, complex
correspondence.
2. High level collaborative and negotiation skills with the ability to manage, develop and retain strong professional working
relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
3. Experience managing a land tenure business system or similar, to achieve effective and efficient outcomes.
4. Sound understanding of frameworks, principles, legislation, standards, and practices relating to land tenure
administration and remote leasing.
5. Ability to provide high level strategic and operational advice including consideration of any political, social, and
organisational influences within a regional context.
6. Proven experience with working in a demanding environment subject to constantly changing priorities and deadlines.
7. An understanding of Indigenous affairs and culture with the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures,
including ability and willingness to work in remote communities for short periods, travelling to remote locations via four-
wheel drive vehicles, light aircraft, or other means.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in local government, public policy, law, or social sciences.
2. Demonstrated understanding of project management framework in a complex multi-stakeholder environment.
