About Us:
Kite Magnetics (Melbourne, Australia) develops and manufactures advanced magnetic materials for use in high perormance electric motors. Our patented Aeroperm® nanocrystalline material, originating at Monash University, enables lighter, more efficient electric motors and generators for weight- and energy-sensitive applications.
The Opportunity
Help build a new class of magnetic materials and stator cores. This is a hands-on production role in a clean, procedure-driven prototype environment—a degree is not required. You’ll assemble, operate and improve prototype production equipment, and test materials/components alongside an incredibly collaborative and knowledgeable engineering team.
Location: Onsite only, Notting Hill (next to Monash University; bus from Caulfield Station)
Hours: Permanent day shift with flexible start 6:00–9:30am (corresponding finish). No weekends or overtime.
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Reporting to: Principal Materials Engineer
Team: Work with 5 materials/process engineers and our Industrial Electrician (15-person company)
Targeting Commencement Before September 30th
What you’ll do
- Run production equipment to documented procedures (SOPs) and meet safety, quality and schedule expectations.
- Perform set-ups and changeovers, including first-article checks and basic line clearance.
- Carry out in-process inspection and testing of materials/components; record clear, traceable results in simple digital logs.
- Support manual assembly of prototype production equipment and components; contribute ideas to fixtures/jigs and workflow.
- Use measurement and test tools: micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, precision scales, hand tools; operate magnetic test equipment and examine samples under microscopes.
- Access to lathe and mill for qualified users (or training provided).
- Work safely around hoists, compressed gases, vacuum systems, and industrial ovens/high-temperature equipment.
- Follow good documentation practices as we progress toward ISO 9001 readiness next year, and protect company IP by adhering to confidentiality and procedures.
Requirements
What you’ll bring
