Mill and Feeding Operations Technician

Purpose of Role

To support the Mill and Feeding Manager in ensuring accurate feed delivery, overseeing the function and servicing of automated systems, managing feed inventories and maintaining critical machinery and technical infrastructure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Working under the general guidance and support of the Mill and Feeding Manager, the Mill and Feeding Operations Technician will undertake the following responsibilities in a professional manner:

• Feed Mill Operation: operate and monitor mill equipment, mixers, augers and conveyor systems to ensure consistent, high-quality ration preparation and delivery.
• Machine Operation and Maintenance: operate and maintain equipment including loaders, feeding trucks, stationary mixers, conveyors and other feeding machinery. Conduct daily pre-starts and routine preventative maintenance.
• Automation Systems: monitor and maintain automated feeding and batching systems, ensuring accurate ration distribution and system integrity. Troubleshoot and resolve faults in feeding software or automation hardware.
• Elevator and Hoist Operations: safely operate material elevators and hoists used for lifting, transporting or distributing feed commodities and other bulk materials.
• Feed Quality and Accuracy: ensure accurate feed allocations and maintain detailed feeding records by becoming proficient in feedlot management software and systems, ensuring rations meet nutritional specifications and operational requirements.
• Commodity Management: assist with the sourcing and purchasing of feedlot commodities, ensuring timely supply and cost-effective procurement. Liaise with commodity suppliers and monitor market trends.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with feedlot department managers, external consultants and internal teams including livestock, maintenance and administration to ensure efficient day-to-day feedlot operations.
• Ensure Compliance: adhere to all Barmount Feedlot policies and procedures, including those relating to quality assurance, workplace health and safety, animal welfare and environmental responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural field or relevant experience.
• Working at heights and other relevant tickets are also preferred, however not essential.
• Proficient computer skills and technical aptitude.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• High level of organisational skills to organise daily and weekly work schedule.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment effectively.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $77,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
