What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Packaging Hand to join our dynamic team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for performing a range of packaging tasks—both manual and machine-operated—to ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and presentation.
Reporting to the Packaging Supervisor, your focus will be on achieving daily production targets while adhering to strict food safety guidelines and operational procedures.
The Role
Product Handling & Packaging:
- Work collaboratively with all Salumi employees to maintain a harmonious and productive working environment.
- Inspect products prior to packaging for conformance and wholesomeness for sale and refer any/all query products to the Packaging Supervisor immediately.
- Prepare products for packaging through sorting, cutting, trimming, dusting, and brushing.
- Operate packaging equipment and perform manual tasks such as weighing, labelling, gas flushing, cryovac sealing, packing, and taping, maintaining batch number identification throughout the packaging process.
- Monitor and inspect all packaging materials prior to and after the packaging process for conformance and integrity of seal.
- Adhere to all Packaging Specifications, including validation of product labels prior to printing.
- Follow direction from the Packaging Supervisor and carry out all tasks efficiently to achieve packaging schedule goals.
- Carry out the safe operation of packaging machinery and equipment and and report any hazards or malfunctions to the Production Supervisor immediately.
- Conduct and record daily opening and closing procedures when required.
- Assisting in maintaining FIFO (first in first out) systems for raw materials and packaging supplies; notify supervisors of inventory needs.
- Loading, movements and unloading of product on forklift to designated areas in a safe manner
Food Safety Responsibilities:
- Comply with all regulatory and food safety requirements (Food Standards Code, Food Act 2003, Food Regulation NSW 2010, Salumi Australia Food Safety Program).
- Maintain the work area and equipment in a hygienic and safe condition, so as to avoid cross contamination of raw food stuffs with ready to eat food stuffs
- Perform daily cleaning of work areas, tools, and packaging equipment to meet the highest sanitation standards in line with the Cleaning Policy.
- Proactively follow Good Manufacturing Practices by carrying out and adhering to all company guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures, Food Safety Program/HACCP.
About YOU:
- Forklift license preferable
- A high standard of personal cleanliness and hygiene
- Strong work ethic with a focus on quality and safety
- Previous experience in food manufacturing or packaging role (preferred)
- Can carry out physical tasks; lifting, moving, pushing of reasonable weight
- Ability to maintain focus during repetitive tasks
- Will work effectively in a fast paced team environment, as well as ability to work independently
- Can receive and follow direction with tolerance and adaptability
- Team player with go to attitude, adaptable and tolerant

Pay: $32.00 – $35.00 per hour
