About the Team

A core service of State Trustees is protecting the financial and legal interests of thousands of Victorians who are unable to manage their own affairs because of mental illness, injury or disability.

Our Specialised Support team manages the financial and legal affairs of our most vulnerable clients whose circumstances are complex and unique and which could further be complicated with multiple critical factors, such as the loss of formal or informal support, mental health concerns and/or disabilities, substance abuse, financial abuse, being at risk from others or demonstrates violent behaviour, at risk accommodation or difficult relations (family breakdowns or conflict) etc. These clients are appointed to us through the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal.

About the Role

Internally known as a Personal Financial Consultant, you'll support clients - primarily Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people - who have complex financial and legal needs. You'll deliver services aligned with their will and preferences, in line with the Guardianship and Administration Act, while also contributing to culturally appropriate service delivery across the organisation.

You will also:

• Manage and administer financial affairs for a caseload of clients
• Provide tailored budgeting, payment decisions, and financial capability support
• Liaise with clients, families, support workers, VCAT, and internal professionals
• Provide internal advice to support culturally safe practices

Skills & Experience

• Passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable people
• Experienced in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
• Skilled in financial or case management in human or social services
• Comfortable working with complexity, sensitive issues, and diverse needs
• Great communication skills with a collaborative and empathetic approach
• Experience creating and managing budgets or client finances
• Confidence making independent decisions, while knowing when to escalate
• Excellent time management and attention to detail
