The Budget Strategy Group maintains a central role in supporting sound financial management in Victoria.
The Financial Frameworks team, Budget Strategy optimises public sector resource management systems to drive value for money for Victorians. The team is responsible for budget and financial management legislation and policy and providing advice on its application and reform options. The team plays a key role in improving the use of data in decision making.
Key Accountabilities
  • Support and contribute to policy development and implementation of reforms to the State's resource management framework.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in DTF and across departments and agencies.
  • Support the use of analysis and progressive technologies to aid in policy development and decision making and briefing on these matters where appropriate.
  • Support the development of solutions to issues and assist in the completion of urgent tasks.
  • Contribute to key State Budget products.
Key selection criteria
  • Experience in developing policy and analysis and providing advice that contributes to policy formulation.
  • Experience in clearly and concisely presenting information, both verbal and written, to highlight options for decision makers.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining productive and positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, including experience in conceptualising and understanding issues and business processes, and developing innovative solutions to resolve them.
  • A keen commitment and passion for data and analytics and how it can be used to support government decision making, including familiarity with technologies, such as those used for data analytics, predictions and forecasting and recommendations.
Experience and qualifications
  • Public sector experience and/or expertise, including familiarity with the State's financial management frameworks, would be highly regarded.
  • A relevant tertiary education, for example, in Data and Analytics, would be advantageous, but not essential.
