About the role
As a Principal Engineer at Envato, you will provide technical leadership across the engineering team and beyond, using your mastery of complex technical and non-technical domains to make a significant impact on the business.
You will directly influence our technical strategy and drive collaboration across teams to deliver high-quality, impactful solutions that are tightly aligned with business goals. In doing so, you will serve as an example of technical excellence, actively mentor your peers, and help to shape the broader engineering community within Envato.
What you'll be doing
- Lead technical feasibility and high-level solution design across multiple teams, ensuring alignment with our overall technical strategy.
- Apply deep technical expertise to guide Lead Engineers and teams, coaching them through design reviews to drive technical excellence.
- Collaborate with other senior technical leaders to establish and implement consistent engineering principles and practices across the organisation.
- Align technical solutions with business objectives by deeply understanding the commercial strategies and goals in your domain.
- Contribute to strategic direction and product roadmaps, balancing short-term needs with long-term technical decisions to optimise business outcomes.
- Act as a role model for our values, fostering a culture of technical excellence through active mentorship of developers and Lead Engineers.
- Drive continuous improvement by staying abreast of emerging technologies, evolving our "golden paths," and contributing significantly to our Guilds.
- Lead the delivery of complex, cross-team projects when required, managing stakeholders and removing roadblocks to ensure success.
- Support the coordination of multiple streams of work within a domain, ensuring integrated solutions and minimising bottlenecks across teams.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and champion a culture of constructive feedback to foster an environment of trust and continuous improvement.
About you
- You likely have 15+ years of technical experience, with a proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale web applications.
- A proven ability to lead multiple, complex projects while consistently delivering high-quality solutions.
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to align technical initiatives with business objectives.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience integrating AI and AI tooling into workflows.
- A professional self-awareness, proactively seeking and acting upon feedback for continuous improvement.
- An approach built on honesty, openness, fairness, transparency, and integrity, in line with our values.
- Experience in building recommendation and personalisation services is a bonus
