Primary objective
Conduct privacy impact assessments and provide expert advice on information privacy management across the department and
government schools to ensure compliance with the Information Act 2002 (NT), Information Privacy Principles and other relevant
legislations, regulations or standards.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Complete privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and privacy information statements on digital applications used across the
department and government schools.
2. Provide support, guidance and advice on privacy including risks assessments and proposed strategies to address risks and the
implementation of PIA recommendations.
3. Undertake research and participate in internal and external forums to inform privacy impact assessment, risk identification and
management and policy development.
4. Assist the development, implementation and promotion of policies, guidelines, information statements, and training across the
department and government schools on privacy and data management.
5. Provide support across the department and government schools on management of data security breaches.
6. Support the Senior Privacy Manager in handling complex privacy matters.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound knowledge and understanding of privacy legislation including the Information Act 2002 (NT), Information Privacy
Principles, Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and information security standards.
2. Proven ability to interpret legislative obligations and a strong track record in leading end-to-end PIAs, including scoping,
consultation, drafting, and developing risk treatment strategies.
3. Familiarity with the Notifiable Data Breach Scheme and demonstrated experience in managing and advising on data security
breaches from detection and triage to reporting, containment, and post-incident review.
4. Demonstrated discretion, sound judgement, and time management with the ability to operate effectively in multi-stakeholder,
high-trust environments.
5. Strong analytical skills and demonstrated competence in conducting and synthesising research and stakeholder input into clear,
practical policies, guidelines, and training materials.
6. Strong interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills, including ability to build and maintain good working
relationships with stakeholders, and experience in explaining complex privacy requirements to both technical and non-technical
audiences, including school staff and senior executives.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline e.g. information management, business, education, legal or another related field.
2. Experience in Microsoft office tools, and data processing technologies, systems and applications.
