Australia's largest public museum organisation is seeking a Producer, Special Events at Museums Victoria.

ABOUT MUSEUMS VICTORIA:

Ever dreamed of working in a place where dinosaurs roam, stars explode, and the world's most intriguing stories come to life? Welcome to Museums Victoria (MV)—where every day is a new opportunity to create unforgettable experiences. As one of the southern hemisphere's largest and most iconic museum organisations, we're not just about exhibits; we're about engaging, immersive moments that spark curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Home to the awe-inspiring Melbourne Museum, the culturally rich Immigration Museum, the mind-expanding Scienceworks, and the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building, MV is a place where events transform spaces and stories into something truly unmissable. Join a passionate team that brings ideas to life and makes discovery part of everyday experience.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

This position is responsible for the end-to-end management of events, from concept development through to execution and post-event reporting, under the direction of the Head of Department. The role involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, overseeing all aspects of event planning—including budgeting, logistics, and production—to deliver high-quality, memorable experiences.

Events delivered through this role are aligned with Museums Victoria's (MV) vision, mission, and strategic objectives, with a strong focus on increasing visitation, generating revenue, and enhancing MV's reputation for delivering unique and impactful public experiences. The position is accountable for ensuring all events are delivered on time, within budget, to the highest production standards, and in a way that supports Museum Victoria's broader business goals.

Some of the key duties include:

  • Design and develop innovative event concepts and costings that feed into an exciting annual Special Events program—driven by strategy, trends, and audience insights.
  • Lead end-to-end project delivery for a range of events, managing all aspects including content development, scheduling, staff coordination, talent contracting, logistics (e.g. AV, venue setup), and budget oversight—with a strong emphasis on safety and compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure effective marketing and ticketing strategies that maximise attendance and engagement.
  • Support strategic partnerships by delivering high-quality event components aligned with partner expectations and deliverables.
  • Maintain efficient systems and schedules to ensure seamless coordination, delivery, and reporting of event activity and performance.
  • Use audience feedback and evaluation data to refine events and ensure continuous improvement in line with Museums Victoria's brand and quality standards.
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative team environment that reflects Museums Victoria's commitment to diversity, innovation, safety, and respect.
  • Adhere to all organisational policies and regulations, including compliance with the Child Safe Standards and other legislative requirements.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Proven experience developing and delivering high-quality events in the cultural sector, engaging diverse audiences through a range of contemporary approaches.
  • Strong understanding of event production within a museum or public engagement context, with experience producing events around science, STEM, sustainability, design, and First Peoples content.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver events and projects that meet audience and organisational objectives—on time and within budget.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and collaborators.
  • Experience leading event teams and managing operational issues during event delivery.
  • Strong evaluation and critical reflection skills to support continuous improvement of programs.
  • A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, diverse, and values-driven workplace culture.
