Primary objective
The Project and Program Consultant works in a team responsible for developing and implementing educational leadership initiatives
and development programs across the Northern Territory, including implementation of the Education Leadership Strategy 2021-
2024.
Context statement
Leadership and Development is a team within the Career Development branch of the Educational Leadership, Culture and Care
division. The Career Development branch leads system-wide onboarding and retention initiatives to set all employees up for
success in their new roles; support them to grow as experts in their chosen fields through the leadership pipeline; informs effective
program design for professional development; and ensures a sustainable approach for Aboriginal educator career development.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Support complex strategic projects including initiatives arising from Cabinet, ensure their alignment to outcomes through
evaluation practices, and provide progress reporting as required.
2. Coordinate, research and prepare high level briefs, submissions, reports and correspondence to enable to Minister, Chief
Executive and Deputy Chief Executive to carry out their functions effectively.
3. Liaise effectively and professionally with internal staff at all levels within the department, as well as external stakeholders,
ensuring appropriate information access, management and use.
4. Coordinate information collation, analysis and reporting to ensure, accurate, and reliable program and performance activity
information.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in project management, monitoring and analysis experience including high-level ability to investigate,
manage and report on complex issues, evaluate associated benefits, and recommend strategies including strong organisational
skills, excellent data capture and analysis capability and the ability to respond flexibility to changing priorities.
2. Demonstrated high level written communication, reporting, interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in the preparation
of strategic advice and support, briefings, reports, procurement documents and other correspondence.
3. Demonstrated ability to work independently to a high standard, problem solve and to collaborate within a small team to lead
and manage a variety of strategic tasks in a complex environment and meet deadlines within time constraints.
4. Demonstrated ability to confidently build and maintain effective networks, undertake consultation and liaison with a range of
internal and external stakeholders.
5. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary qualifications or formal training related to adult learning and/or leadership development.
2. Qualification in project management.
3. Contemporary knowledge of education systems and the strategic direction of the Department of Education and Northern
Territory Government.
