As the Regulatory Compliance Lead (Animal Care and Use), you'll spearhead the University of Melbourne's compliance program for animal care and use. You'll lead a team responsible for auditing, monitoring, and reporting on adherence to crucial legislation and ethical standards. This role offers you the chance to significantly impact animal welfare practices, develop deep expertise in a complex regulatory environment, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders across the university.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead Compliance Auditing and Reporting: Manage a team to conduct ongoing audits, monitoring, and reporting on operational compliance with relevant legislation and codes of practice.

  • Oversee Inspection and Review Programs: Ensure delivery of annual scientific premises inspections and coordinate the university's quadrennial Independent External Review.

  • Provide Expert Advice: Identify issues, analyze risks, and advise senior management on complex matters related to animal care and use regulatory compliance.

  • Build Stakeholder Relationships: Develop and maintain strong connections across the Animal Care and Use Program to influence and support compliance with regulations.

You may be a great fit if:

You are an experienced professional with a strong background in regulatory compliance, particularly in animal care and use, possessing excellent leadership skills and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships in a university setting.

You may also:

  • Have extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, including the POCTA Act and Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes.

  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address compliance issues.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing diverse stakeholders.

  • Have experience in managing and developing teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Be adept at project management, particularly in coordinating large-scale reviews and audits.
