Take the next step in your leadership career with this exciting opportunity to help supervise and lead the operations of Council’s Gregadoo Waste Management Centre (GWMC) and rural transfer stations.
As the Resource Recovery Leading Hand, you’ll manage a team of twelve (12) staff, oversee contractors, ensure environmental and WHS compliance, and support the safe and efficient delivery of landfill and recycling operations. From coordinating daily disposal activities to maintaining site infrastructure and driving continuous improvement, you’ll play a key role in keeping our facilities running smoothly and sustainably.

- Permanent, full-time position (38 hours per week).
- Remuneration package of $3,087.34 gross per fortnight with the opportunity to progress to $3,704.81 gross per fortnight + superannuation (12%).
- Access to Council’s Nine (9) Day Fortnight Arrangement, with every second Monday off as a Rostered Day Off (RDO).

Key Responsibilities:
As the Resource Recovery Leading Hand, you will be responsible to:
- Assist with the coordination and supervision of landfill personnel and contractors engaged in the daily operations of solid waste disposal including placement, compaction, and burial of refuse in accordance with legislative guidelines.
- Assist with all onsite maintenance and repair of landfill infrastructure.
- Ensure all operations at waste management facilities are undertaken in accordance with workplace safety compliance requirements including utilisation and maintenance all items of Council plant, equipment, tools (hand and power) and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE/C).
- Maintain access roads, signage and traffic control.
- Ensure all recycling areas are managed efficiently and effectively enabling safe access by the public.
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvements in all facets of the site operations.
- Ensure a high standard of customer service is maintained by all staff.
- Undertake regular inspections of the sites to evaluate conditions and implement changes within delegated authority.
- Attend to inspections and operational meetings as requested.
- Assist with maintenance of accurate records on materials, equipment and personnel usage.
- Assist with the coordination of contractors, suppliers and utility service providers in the execution of projects.
- Supervise specific projects as direct by the Resource Recovery Supervisor.
- Assist with the preparation of project estimates and quotations as requested.
- Manage and assist with supervision of staff including task delegation, monitoring staff performance, training and development and developing a teamwork approach.
- Undertake administrative duties including purchasing requisitions, timesheet authorisation etc.
- Assist with the development and implementation of annual work programs and plans e.g. soil and water management plans.
- Support the Resource Recovery Supervisor in a relief capacity when requested.
- Perform other duties in support of the GWMC team as directed, relevant to skills, competence and training.
Essential Requirements of the Position:
As the successful applicant, you will bring a strong mix of qualifications, skills and professional experience, including:
- Qualifications relevant to the role i.e., Civil Construction, Frontline Management etc.
- Class C Driver’s Licence.
- General Construction Induction Training Card.
- Substantial experience relevant to the role including leading and working effectively in a team and independently.
- Solid time management, planning, administrative and computer skills including Microsoft Office.
In accordance with Work Health and Safety legislation, the successful applicant is required to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus and will be asked to provide evidence of this.
