SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety and associated legislation. We do this by undertaking a mix of responsive and proactive programs of work focused on high-risk harms across all industries, aligned to our strategic plan and regulatory priorities.
SafeWork NSW is undergoing an exciting and important period of transformation as we establish the organisation as a modern, strong and standalone Work Health and Safety Regulator.


Your day-to-day

As the Training and Development Manager reporting to the Director, People and Corporate Services, you will lead a team dedicated to providing high-impact learning and education initiatives for SafeWork NSW Inspectors. Your goal will be to ensure excellence in the delivery of SafeWork NSW Inspector training.
Key programs include:


  • New Inspector Training Program (NITP) and the ongoing operation of the SafeWork RTO
  • Capability mapping and workforce skills profiling
  • Coaching and mentoring initiatives
  • Tailored learning solutions for emerging regulatory needs
  • Induction programs and onboarding support.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to manage a team, work individually, collaborate with peers and key stakeholders, seek targeted feedback and respond to changing priorities
  • Proven experience in training, learning and development
  • Strong understanding of instructional design and adult learning principles
  • Excellent communication, coaching and leadership skills
  • Experience with e-learning platforms and digital training tools
  • Ability to analyse training effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

About you

As our Training and Development Manager, you will drive innovative learning strategies, build strong stakeholder relationships with training partners such as the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) and ensure training solutions meet the evolving needs of our workforce.

You will possess a deep understanding of Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) standards and the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) coupled with proven experience in delivering customer-focused quality services in a fast-paced, complex environment. Exceptional negotiation and influencing skills are essential for this role, enabling you to effectively engage with diverse customer groups to achieve meaningful results.


Key accountabilities will include:

  • Lead the development, review and maintenance of training programs to align with organisational objectives.
  • Partner with key stakeholders and project teams to assess people impacts, provide expert advice and implement tailored training strategies.
  • Analyse training needs and develop new, forward-thinking programs that support business outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate training standards using stakeholder feedback, recommending continuous improvements.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop cohesive learning solutions across the organisation.
  • Prepare and present strategic plans, reports and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Mentor and coach a high-performing team to foster internal expertise and collaboration.

Salary Grade 11/12, with the base salary for this role starting at $ base plus superannuation
