This permanent, full-time Laboratory Technician position provides technical support services to teaching staff in the delivery of the School’s Science programme to students and would suit a professional looking to work term time only, within a School environment.
We are also interested in hearing from Senior Laboratory Technicians as there will be more than one position available in our team.
About the role:
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for the following tasks:
Consulting and collaborating with the Science teaching staff on their needs for practical work
Maintaining an efficient system for the use and allocation of materials and equipment
Preparing experiment trolleys for classes in Years 5-12 as requested by Science teaching staff
Carrying out routine tasks in preparation for practical classes, including the preparation of chemical solutions, trailing experiments, caring for living specimens, and conducting chemical/physical tests
Assisting with the use of ICT across the department
Adhering to and implementing safe working practices and procedures in accordance with the School's OH&S policy and practices
Monitoring and taking full care to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others within the Science laboratories
Reviewing, evaluating, and approving/modifying Risk Assessments for requested practical activities
Maintaining a safe chemical storage/handling/disposal system in accordance with compliance regulations
Maintaining and regularly evaluating the labelling, storage, stocktaking, and inventory of equipment and chemicals
Maintaining equipment logs, including sourcing external repairs and maintenance, and disposing of hazardous waste as required
About you:
The successful candidate for this role will be:
Qualified and experienced as a Science Laboratory Technician
Experienced working as a Science Technician within a Science laboratory and/or educational setting (ideally within a Middle and/or Senior School
Highly organised with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to plan daily workloads and prioritise schedules to meet deadlines
Able to treat all students with respect and to actively support the learning and management plans for students consistently and appropriately;
A team player
