The Opportunity
The Senior Consultant takes responsibility and is accountable for a broad range of business development activities (proactive and reactive) and the end-to-end management of consulting projects assigned to them in collaboration with the Domestic Consulting team. This includes providing leadership for and the development and implementation of strategy in the public health sector of the Australian domestic consulting market. This role is for 1-year fixed term with the possibility of converting to permanent employment.
This role will also have responsibility for demonstrating a visible and systematic commitment to achieving gender equality at Abt and for achieving against agreed gender equality performance objectives.
Core Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing a strategy for business development opportunities in public health through leveraging off of existing projects and through pro-actively promoting Abt’s capabilities to potential clients and through involvement in relevant discipline specific external professional groups/networks.
- Conducting pre-capture, capture and tender responses across all opportunities in collaboration with the Domestic Consulting Team. Using discipline expertise, provide leadership of this activity in relation to public health.
- Leading in the area of public health and/or contributing to the development of high-quality tender responses to domestic tender opportunities
- Leading (in public health specific activity) and supporting the development of the consulting practice through activities including but not limited to development and maintenance of: webpage, linked-in and other social media platforms; marketing or other promotional materials; and boilerplates and templates for proposals and projects.
- Build and maintain strong and influential partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate and promote optimum services delivery.
- Use expertise in public health theory and practice to set the direction of, lead and manage projects that provide evidence based, high quality products, solutions or advice for our clients. Lead and develop other team members in this process.
- Leading, managing and contributing to a range of broad domestic consulting projects and domestic programs through the full project cycle; planning, design, implementation and reporting. These could include but are not limited to Evaluations, Monitoring, Research Designs, Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis, Needs Assessments, Service Mapping and Strategies, Workforce reviews and Project Reporting.
- Managing projects in accordance with the contract ensuring quality, timeliness and efficiency. Identify risks and develop strategies to manage the risks.
- As appropriate, overseeing program financial forecasting, monitoring, reporting, invoicing and value for money principles against the contract
- Implementing robust and high quality project management practices in accordance with Abt’s project management methodology (PMBOK).
- Building the capability of other staff in relation to planning, service design, monitoring, evaluation and research activities
- Participating in and contributing to One Global Abt’s solutions organisation.
- Contributing to company-wide system/process improvements and corporate initiatives and meetings and in particular those that promote the values of the organisation.
- Contributing to business development, and program management and delivery of international programs as required
- Participating in personal and corporate professional development activities.
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties as directed.
What We Value
- Bachelor’s Degree + Twelve years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + Ten years of relevant experience, or PhD+ Eight years of relevant experience
- Masters or PhD in Health or Social Sciences related disciplines with 7+ years of work experience in research, consulting or a similar environment strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience in qualitative methodologies, analysis, interpretation and reporting
- Previous experience and competency in quantitative methodologies, analysis, interpretation and reporting
- Highly developed communication skills; verbal, written, professional report writing and dissemination, publications
- Good understanding and experience of the requirements and processes associated with human research ethics applications
- Good understanding of the Australian Health Care sector
- Good understanding of the broader Human Services sector
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a team
- Experience working on business development including supporting drafting responses to tenders
- Previous experience and competency in engaging and managing a broad range of stakeholders (e.g. Government, non-government, private organisations, private practitioners, service beneficiaries) from diverse backgrounds
- Organisational skills with ability to prioritise tasks
- Previous experience in a consultancy role and/or project management across the entire project life cycle particularly in a commercial environment
- Preferable to have experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations
- Preferable to have experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people, communities and organisations.
