Job Description
The School of Information and Communication Technology at Griffith University is a leading school for education and research in digital technologies. It offers innovative programs across areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, software engineering, computer networking, and intelligent systems. With a strong emphasis on industry engagement and real-world applications, the School prepares graduates with the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in an increasingly dynamic and technology-driven world.
Queensland Quantum Decarbonisation Alliance
The applicant will work within the Queensland Quantum Decarbonisation Alliance (QDA), which seeks to position Queensland as a global leader in quantum technologies for decarbonisation. The QDA will bring together twenty-seven partners across academia and industry to create a world-leading quantum decarbonisation effort in Queensland. The QDA will establish seven new large-scale research teams in Queensland, in close partnership with PsiQuantum as they build their first utility-scale quantum computer here. It will train a pipeline of cross-disciplinary talent in our universities and industry, including undergraduate and Masters coursework, PhD programs, and quantum up-skilling for industry.
Join us in shaping the future of quantum innovation in Queensland.
As a Senior Lecturer, you’ll take on complex local and global challenges, using your skills and experience to advance quantum computer algorithms and drive meaningful change in decarbonisation. Here’s how you’ll make it matter:
- You will lead and/or contribute to the Griffith Node of the Queensland Quantum Decarbonisation Alliance (QDA), and pursue research aimed at reducing climate impact by the application of quantum technology.
- You will seek collaborations and knowledge-sharing within QDA, both at Griffith and with researchers at the University of Queensland (lead Node), Psi-Quantum, and other partners.
- You will work with a QDA-funded team in ICT comprising yourself, another new Senior Lecturer appointment, a 3-year postdoc, and two PhD students funded by the project.
- You will ensure that your team contributes as required to the relevant milestones in QDA – including research goals, relevant course development and teaching, training, and industry engagement.
- You will be expected to contribute to the School’s teaching activities by fostering an outstanding student experience and promoting active engagement in learning. This includes delivering high-quality, student-centred teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programs, as well as contributing to curriculum development, assessment design, and continuous enhancement of teaching practices, in alignment with Griffith’s Graduates of the Future strategy.
There are two positions available:
There is one continuing, full time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). This position will be research focused for the first 5 years and will then become a balanced academic position thereafter.
Additionally, there is one continuing contingent funded position (funding confirmed for an initial 4 years), full time, research focused, primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). The successful candidate for this role will be required to attract and generate competitive research funding to support the position beyond the initial 4 year term.
As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.
Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be Senior Lecturer, Level C range $138,702 - $159,936 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $162,281 - $187,125 per annum.
Qualifications
What matters most is your drive to create a brighter future that benefits all. Through our core principles of excellence, ethics and engagement, you’ll thrive on seeing the direct and lasting impact you’ll have on every community and every future.
You will also have:
- A doctoral qualification in computer science or a relevant field (e.g. mathematics, physics or theoretical chemistry), or equivalent accreditation and standing.
- A strong track record in quantum algorithm development, proven by publications.
- Other relevant experience, preferably in areas such as scientific software development, quantum algorithm optimisation, and applications of quantum algorithms in disciplines like chemistry (preferred), physics or engineering.
- Experience and demonstrated competence in teaching, and preferably also course-development, outreach, grant management, training, and industry engagement.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervision skills and ability to attract external funding.
