The Opportunity
The Senior Manager, Stakeholder Engagement will play a critical role in developing and maintaining strategic relationships in Canberra, ensuring the organisation remains informed about evolving government priorities and policy developments. This position supports proactive engagement with key stakeholders, including government bodies, policymakers, advisers, and bureaucrats, in an apolitical manner. As part of a wider team focused on stakeholder engagement, issues management, and public accountability, this role helps shape the organisation’s contributions to policy discussions through insights drawn from its investment expertise.
Reporting to the Head of External Relations, you will lead efforts to strengthen engagement across government and support formal governance activities.
Key Responsibilities
Government Relations – Leverage strategic relationships to engage the organisation in initiatives such as the Future Made in Australia policy, Front Door and government investment vehicles. Maintain and expand relationships with Ministerial offices, government departments, and policy advisers to enhance collaboration. Identify opportunities to contribute insights drawn from the organisation's investment experience, develop a program of formal engagement for the Board of Guardians in Canberra and prepare briefings to support engagement with government officials.
Governance Arrangements Support – Collaborate with members of the external relations function to support engagement with the organisations governance arrangements.
Issues Management – Support work to identify and navigate reputational risks arising from changes in political and policy dynamics. Contribute to the preparation of Senate Estimates, public hearings, and responses to parliamentary questions.
Collaboration across the Corporate Affairs Function – Work closely with colleagues across the Corporate Affairs function, including the Director, Thought Leadership and the Senior Manager, Public Affairs, to ensure alignment and knowledge exchange on government priorities.
About You
You have extensive experience in government relations, public policy, and stakeholder engagement, with a proven ability to build and sustain relationships with politicians, advisers, and public officials. You have expertise in areas related to institutional investment, including governance, investment and investment and non-investment risk management. With a strong understanding of reputation risk management, you are skilled in navigating complex political and policy landscapes. Holding a degree in Commerce, Economics, Law, Public Policy, or a related field, you bring a strategic mindset and a collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement while fostering an inclusive and informed organisational culture.
