The opportunity
Are you looking for a role that contributes to community health and environmental sustainability? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Sewer Treatment Plant Operator. This hands-on position offers the chance to operate and maintain critical sewer treatment systems, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. In this role you will:
- Operate and maintain the Sewer Treatment Plants and sewage and storm water pump stations
- Assist in the maintenance of the sewerage system in all locations across Federation Council.
- Deliver sewerage operations in compliance with Council standards, regulations, legislation and contractual requirements and in line with the works program
- Maintain daily diary of works, machine and treatment plant operations to include any incident or event which may affect the works at the present or at a future time
- Comply with operational licence requirements including monitoring performance of the reticulation system and reporting plant and system performance to the Team Leader Sewer Treatment and Coordinator Utilities
- Maintain manual and computer records of the sewer treatment plants and sewer pump stations operation/performance
- Maintain all site safety signs and safety provisions at all times
- Undertake all tests required for the proper operation of the plant
- Maintain all buildings, pump stations, grounds and other works. Keep all facilities in a clean and tidy condition
- Ensure that any staff under your control are properly instructed by yourself in the work required of them
- Perform other duties when required, including operation of other Sewer Treatment Plants within Federation Council within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications:
- Hold a valid Accredited Treatment Plant Operator Certifications or experience in a similar field or have the ability to complete the certifications required.
- Demonstrated experience in sewer and water pump stations.
- Hold a current and valid Confined Spaces Entry Accreditation (if not must obtain one in first 3 months of work).
- Hold a valid Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Hold a Current and valid class "C" driver's licence.
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHS practices and ability to participate in a safe working environment;
- Possess intermediate Computer skills and data entry.
- Demonstrated history of showing initiative in solving problems, improving methods and productivity and ability to seek guidance where required.
- Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills with the ability to complete forms and follow basic plans.
- Be available for rostered alternate weekend work, on call roster and emergency call outs

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $1273.50 per week with progression up to $1405.60 per week dependent upon skills and experience.
