About the role

TAFE Gippsland is looking for an experienced maritime professional to join our team atSEAMEC – our purpose-built maritime training facility in Lakes Entrance. This isn’t just a teaching job. It’s a chance to pass on your knowledge, stay close to the industry, and work in one of the best training environments in the country.

You’ll train everyone from school leavers starting their maritime careers to seasoned operators refreshing their qualifications. Our programs cover vessel operations, safety, navigation, marine radio, and engine maintenance and we deliver training right across Gippsland and into Melbourne.

Backed by a strong reputation and deep industry ties, we offer training that gets people job-ready and keeps standards high. You’ll be part of a close-knit, highly skilled team with access to fully equipped classrooms, well-equipped workshops, and our own modern and well-equipped training vessels.

What you’ll need

  • TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent). If you don’t have this yet, you’ll need to complete it within an agreed timeframe.
  • Certificate of Competency as Master up to 24m NC and Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 NC, with at least 12 months’ verified sea time (mandatory).
  • MAR30921 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master up to 24m NC) and MAR20421 Certificate II in Maritime Operations (MED3) or equivalents.
  • Medically fit with current AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness for Near Coastal Seafarers - AMSA 1850
  • Industry qualifications such as SROCP (Marine Radio) and current First Aid HLTAID011
  • Practical, current experience in maritime operations—ideally including vessel handling, maintenance, and safety procedures.
  • A strong safety mindset
  • A capable communicator in verbal and written modes
  • Current Working with Children Check (Victoria)
  • National Police Check (within the last 12 months)
  • Heavy Vehicle Driver’s licence – Light Rigid (LR) minimum

Highly regarded

  • Master up to 45 metres or higher deck qualification
  • Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 or higher engineering qualification
  • MAR40320 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45m NC)
  • MAR30821 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (MED2) or higher marine/trade engineering qualification
  • Marine or Heavy Transport mechanical trade qualification
  • STCW certification
  • GMDSS GOC certificate
