Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

VCAT

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) is a justice service that resolves a wide range of disputes for the Victorian community, including renting, planning, and consumer disputes. VCAT is committed to delivering an accessible service for all Victorians and is transforming our digital products and services to make it faster, easier, and more convenient for people to come to the tribunal.

About the Role

Working in partnership with senior leaders and Members, this role will have a particular focus on managing and reviewing case management methodologies in VCAT's Human Rights Division. The successful applicant will be a subject matter expert in Guardianship, Administration and Human Rights subject areas and will use their expertise to optimise the delivery of services to users and management of cases, as well as providing authoritative expert advice on complex issues within guardianship and human rights jurisdictions.

The successful applicant will be required to work onsite in Melbourne CBD and have an opportunity to make a genuine contribution by delivering effective and efficient guardianship and human rights services to the community of Victoria.

The role will be responsible for:

  • triaging applications and determining appropriate case maagement steps to support the efficient flow of cases through their lifecycle
  • working with Heads of Human Rights and Guardianship Lists, other members and Registry staff to establish and oversee active case maagement of proceedings
  • providing technical and procedural guidance to tribunal users to ensure compliance with case timelines and information requirements
  • preparing detailed case briefings for Members that condense the issues under consideration and facilitate improved hearing readiness processes
  • building and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and external users
  • using expert technical knowledge to lead complex issue resolution and query handling, with a focus on building internal capability and improved external information and communication

This role is fixed term until 30 June 2026


About You

The ideal candidate will have excellent legal and procedural experience, including advisory and research skills, strong analytical and decision-making abilities and the capacity to provide subject matter expertise.

You will be able to demonstrate your experience and understanding with guardianship and human rights law with demonstrated ability to:

  • resolve complex issues through a process of consultation and negotiation
  • provide exceptional communication to explain complex concepts and issues to a non expert audience
  • work collaboratively with peers, managers and stakeholders
  • consider approaches and make decisions for team objectives and improve work processes
  • set and apply a high-performance standard for service delivery
  • engage in high level analytical thinking and problem solving and provide proposed solutions
