What you will be doing in this role
As an experienced Speech Pathologist, you will use your thorough knowledge to care for patients across our Oncology, Stroke, Surgical, ICU, General Medical & Rehabilitation wards. You will screen, assess and diagnose speech, communication and swallowing disorders and implement patient centred interventions.
This is a 12-month maternity leave contract, working part time 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) from 8:30am-4:30pm. There is an additional requirement to be on rotating roster for on-call Saturday’s (normally once per month).
Who we’re looking for
You are a qualified Speech Pathologist with at least 4 years of experience within a hospital acute care & rehabilitation setting. You bring strong clinical skills in patient centred speech therapy care that is evidence based, involving thorough screening, assessments, diagnosis and interventions using safe and current techniques, for speech, communication and swallowing disorders. When indicated you will utilise instrumental dysphagia assessments, including FEES.

- Thorough knowledge of communication and swallowing assessments and interventions.
- FEES and/or VFSS competencies completed.
- You’ll be a member of SPA (or eligible to be).
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly, can-do, positive attitude when working with others with the desire to go ‘above and beyond’ when interacting with patients, their families, visitors, and your colleagues.
- Proven experience thriving in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
- The ability to be collaborative, adaptable, work well within a team environment, along with being able to work independently
- You work just as confidently on your own as you do within a multidisciplinary team and have the proven ability to take initiative and employ independent professional judgement as needed.
