The Opportunity
Tasracing, Tasmania's Principal Racing Authority, is seeking experienced Stipendiary Stewards to help maintain fairness, transparency, and compliance across all codes of racing. If you have a deep understanding of racing operations, strong decision-making skills, and a passion for upholding integrity, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact.
In this role, you will enforce the Rules of Racing, support the Chairman of Stewards, and play a pivotal part in maintaining the integrity of race days, trials, inspections, and inquiries.
This full-time role (38 hours per week) offers flexibility to be based in either Hobart or Launceston, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Tasmania.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the conduct of race meetings, trials, and inspections, ensuring compliance with the Rules of Racing.
- Assist in the Tasracing Integrity Unit inquiries and investigations.
- Monitor betting activities, conduct post-race reviews, and support the appeals process.
- Lead swabbing procedures and manage the preparation and despatch of samples.
- Mentor and guide less experienced stewards on regulatory and compliance matters.
- Provide advice and support to clubs, officials, and industry participants on regulatory issues.
- Manage administrative tasks related to stewards' records, race field information, and regulatory databases.
About You
To excel in this role, you’ll need:
- Previous appointment as a Steward in the racing industry with a comprehensive knowledge of the Rules of Racing and an understanding of the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness.
- Previous experience in the conduct of inquiries and investigations.
- Experience in acting as Chairman of Stewards at race meetings, would be highly desirable.
- Excellent race day observation and race reading skills.
- Ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to interact with a diverse range of key personnel/stakeholders and participants from across the racing industry in a professional manner.
- Well-developed time management, self-management and organisational skills.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to consult and resolve conflict.
- Proven high levels of flexibility and adaptability, including the ability to deal with pressure, ambiguity and change.
