About the Role

The College is seeking to appoint a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) Teacher to join our collegial Technology Department, from Term 4, 2025 or Term 1, 2026 (negotiable). Newington students are creative and critical thinkers, ready to ideate, prototype, design, fail and embrace the challenges posed by our aspirational teaching team.

At Newington, students have many opportunities, from Year 7 to 12, to engage in Technology. In Years 7 and 8, students study the mandatory Technology course, and, in Year 8, have the options of elective Game Design, Food and Cooking, Timber, and Product Design. In Years 9 and 10, students can elect to study Design and Technology, Food Technology, Information Software and Technology, and Industrial Technology, majoring in either Engineering or Timber.

In Years 11 and 12, students have the option of HSC courses including Design and Technology, Engineering Studies, Industrial Technology, Software Engineering; they can also study VET courses, Construction and Hospitality. Our senior students are highly skilled and successful, with numerous nominations in HSC showcases achieved each year.

This is a thriving department, and our next team member will have opportunities to learn and grow professionally across the extensive range of courses on offer. We are seeking a team member with expertise across any combination of TAS subjects. Graduates and early career teachers are encouraged to apply.

We have deliberately not provided set and narrow selection criteria. However, it would be expected that the successful candidate will:
  • hold appropriate teaching and tertiary qualifications relevant to the position
  • have experience teaching Stage 4 Technology and any of the Stage 5 TAS Electives or HSC Courses

  • have a thorough understanding of the learning process, including the role of assessment and feedback
  • work effectively as a member of a team
  • be personally committed to learning and professional growth
  • have a strong work ethic
  • possess strong ICT competencies
  • show a genuine appreciation and commitment to pastoral care
  • participate in the College's co-curricular program
  • understand and adhere to the College's Child Safeguarding policies and practices
  • contribute to the continuous improvement of Child Safeguarding at Newington.
