Located some 300km from Geraldton and 650km from Perth, Murchison Settlement is entirely Council managed. The diverse portfolio includes Council office, depot, housing, power and water supply, community and recreation facilities, Roadhouse and Caravan Park.

With new projects, events and developments around the corner, we are in need of a Tourism, Recreation and Community Development Support Officer to assist in the smooth operation, planning and coordination of a variety of community and council-led activations. This could include support and planning for events, organisations and initiatives that enhance the quality of life, vibrancy and services available to Shire residents and visitors.

The role:

The Murchison Shire is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual for the role of Tourism, Recreation and Community Development Support Officer.

No day will be the same as the last as you support event management, communications, visitor information and the corresponding administration required to make these areas run smoothly.

Key duties/responsibilities include:

· Plan, develop and coordinate the execution of Tourism, Recreation and Community Development events in the Shire alongside relevant stakeholders and related organizations;

· Develop captivating marketing materials that support Tourism, Recreation and Community Development initiatives in the Shire;

· Support development and update the Shire’s website specifically with community resources and information as to planned events/initiatives;

· Support operation, promote and coordinate community lead initiatives including but not limited to Local Loyalty Scheme, Community Garden, Murchison Museum, Murchison Sports Club, Murchison Arts Council and Containers for Change alongside relevant stakeholders;

· Gather, record and enter tourist feedback and use this feedback to identify issues of local need in the community and possible areas for recreational development and growth;

· In consultation with internal staff and related stakeholders brainstorm and seek feedback on initiatives that can improve or develop recreational and/or tourism opportunities; and

· Keep up to date on recreational and tourism developments and funding opportunities that support community-led action.

To be successful in the role, you will have:

· Bachelor qualifications in Community Development, Recreation or Tourism or a related field;

· At least one year of experience in the human services field, e.g. community development, community wellbeing, sports recreation, tourism, hospitality management;

· Effective time and personal management skills;

· Demonstrated analytical, investigative and problem-solving ability;

· Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills;

· Sound computer literacy skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook);

· Basic understanding of occupational health & safety principles;

· Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing information technologies;

· Effective public relations, interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills;

· Previous experience in a similar role;

· A current drivers’ license; and

· Knowledge of Local Government structure and practices is desirable but not essential.

Salary:

An attractive salary package is on offer depending on qualifications and experience as per the following outline:

· Full time hours plus TOIL provisions;

· Full time annual salary of $70,000 - $80,000 per annum excluding superannuation. Range depends on qualifications and experience;

· Council provides superannuation at 12% plus a voluntary Council co-contribution up to 5%;

· A partly furnished, modern, air-conditioned residence is available for the position; and

· The Shire meets all costs associated with power, water and gas utilities. Home internet services with an allocation of data and Foxtel services at a reduced cost also form part of the package. A free freight service from Geraldton operates weekly.
