About the team

The team is responsible for the upkeep of elite sporting facilities including AFL and NRL fields, community sports fields and landscaped spaces. Working closely with the Team Leader Grounds Maintenance & Operations and a small dedicated outdoor crew, you’ll support key functions such as turf renovations, GPS line marking, irrigation scheduling (via ICC IRRInet), and integrated pest management. The team fosters a collaborative, hands-on environment with a focus on continuous improvement, professional development, and delivering high-quality surfaces for both elite and community sport.

About your new role

This role is responsible for undertaking a wide range of general sports turf management and horticulture activities including operating specialised sports field plant equipment. Working as part of a team undertaking maintenance and improvements of our high-profile sports fields, landscaped and recreational areas within the Gold Coast Sports Precinct.

This position is based at Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre (Carrara), however, the position is required to work across the City's multiple Major Sporting Venues when required.

You will be involved in the following:

  • Provide comprehensive sports turf management and landscaping support to the Team Leader Turf Management and work as part of a team to undertake maintenance and improvements of our high-profile sports fields, landscaped and recreational areas
  • Undertake a wide range of sports turf management and horticultural activities including, renovations, maintenance, construction, landscaping, GPS line marking, broadacre spraying and integrated pest management programs, rubbish collection
  • Work within our outdoor maintenance team ensuring that the maintenance of sports fields, including the Elite AFL and NRL fields and grounds at our Major Sporting Venues is undertaken in an organised manner
  • Maintain and utilise various specialised sports field plant equipment as part of your activities including but not limited to: 100HP tractors, 3 point linkage mowing decks, cylinder and rotary mowers
  • Manage sport field irrigation systems including scheduling via ICC IRRInet system based on seasonal evapotranspiration (ET) data
  • Participate in identified training programs to increase skills and knowledge, contribute to the continual improvement of the section
  • Take pride in your work, having passion for our City and constantly improving your sports turf management skills while enjoying opportunities to learn new techniques and plant equipment

We're looking for people who have:

  • Certificate II in Horticulture or relevant knowledge and experience
  • Certificate III Sports Turf Management or related discipline (highly regarded)
  • MR Driver’s Licence (Mandatory)
  • General Construction Induction White Card (Mandatory)
  • Ability to use an iPad, computer skills and proficiency in software packages including Microsoft Office, Objective and GIS mapping system
  • A high level of customer service and communication skills
  • A high level of motivation and the ability to prioritise and multitask in a dynamic environment
  • A high level of fitness as this is a labour-intensive position
