Due to the well-deserved retirement of our current Team Leader, Council offers this opportunity for a skilled and safety focused professional to oversee the operation and maintenance of Council’s water and wastewater treatment plants/systems. This is a hands-on leadership role at the heart of Hinchinbrook Shire Council’s Utility Services team. As the Water and Sewerage Treatment Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring and compliance of the region’s water and wastewater treatment plants and pump stations. You’ll ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality water and sewerage services to the community, lead a team of operators, and oversee environmental and public health compliance. This is a rewarding opportunity to apply your technical expertise and leadership skills in a role critical to community wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of treatment plants and pump stations
- Ensure compliance with environmental licences and water quality standards
- Conduct water/wastewater testing and maintain detailed records
- Monitor SCADA systems and optimise chemical dosing
- Maintain assets in clean, operational condition
- Manage a team of operators and liaise with internal/external stakeholders
- Assist in planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement
- Participate in after-hours on-call roster

Key Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated experience in treatment plant operations and team leadership;
- Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and environmental compliance;
- Strong communication skills and ability to use digital systems;
- Ability to work in confined spaces/sewer environments and at heights;
- Advanced First Aid, Confined Space, Chemical Handling certification (or ability to attain);
- Certificate III in Water/Wastewater Treatment (highly desirable) or willingness to commence training;
- QLD ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence and Construction White Card;
- HR or MR Licence (or ability to obtain);
- Availability for after-hours on-call duties; and
- Experience using SCADA systems (desirable).
Level 4 Year 1 Foreman $88,179 per annum and $44.63 per hour including allowances plus superannuation.
